Hello everyone! This is Sam Sirochman, I am hosting SLA Bike Week, it will be happening from May 21st -
Why should you ride? Well because exercising in the morning is a great way to lose weight, increase brain function, and increases overall happiness. Now if you are planning to ride in the mornings, I highly suggest that you take a look at the Preferred Commuter Routes. I must also ask that if you plan on riding, please wear a helmet! We at SLA, are all very bright people and I would hate for any of us to fall and get seriously injured.
Now the best part, if you plan on riding and are interested in getting a PhillyLove’sBikes Sticker. Let me know and I can save you one. (I’ve got 250, they will go fast!) Finally, the SLA Bike Week Raffle, we will be raffling a $50 Modell’s Gift Card. Everyday you ride your name will be entered in the Raffle. You ride once, you have one chance. If you ride everyday, your name will be entered 5 times. There will be a spreadsheet by the bicycle rack, you must write your name and bike model, I will put a check for everyday you ride.
Please remember to use the Bike Rack!

SLA Students in the Art in the Open Festival!!

The pieces are part of the Art in the Open Festival and will be performed on Friday, May 18th between 1:00-3:00. All performance sites are within four blocks of the school. As always, the process has been stunning to watch...

Rough Cut Productions proudly presents its first annual film festival showcasing student work from the past academic season. Varying in length and content, all of the films in the showcase make it abundantly clear that age is not pre-requisite for professional filmmaking.
The films included in this inaugural show run the gamut of storytelling via content, style and format, but all come back to skills honed through our video production courses.
Come to The Franklin for an evening of films that will entertain, provoke thought, inspire and most importantly celebrate the amazing work these young artists have produced to date.
A Q&A session with the filmmakers along with a reception will follow the film screenings. This event is free, and open to the SLA community and their guests. The Musser Theater has a 150 person capacity, so reserve your ticket early.

It's prom time, and this year Science Leadership Academy will be having it's very first prom court. Yes, you read that right. The class of 2012 will have a prom king and queen !!! Although the winner's will be crowned at the senior prom I encourage the whole school to watch their videos and show your support.

Parents Leading SLA's Fuel the Rocket Campaign
Posted by Chris Lehmann onSLA's Home and School is running a "Fuel the Rocket Campaign" to raise $40,000 to help close next year's budget gap. These funds will pay for keeping the building open until 6pm, school supplies and after school programs.

Posted by Marcie Hull onReminder: SLA will be on shortened schedules for Thursday and Friday this week. All classes will meet on the usual days, just shorter classes. If you happen to have an X AND Y on the same day, please discuss with the teachers about which class you will be attending. (this should only impact a handful of you) Also, don't forget to schedule your parent conference!
